The GSM-EFR codec is the third generation of the GSM codec. GSM-EFR has improved speech quality and better robustness to network impairments. GSM-EFR provides one bitrate at 12.2 kbps, which is interoperable with 3GPP AMR-NB at the 12.2 rate.
