The Speex codec is an open source initiative. Speex is based on CELP and is designed to compress voice at bitrates ranging from 2 to 44 kbps. Some Speex features include: narrowband, wideband, and ultra-wideband (32 kHz) speech compression and support for stereo encoding. Speex also integrates packet loss concealment (PLC), discontinuous transmission (DTX), an acoustic echo canceller (AEC) and noise suppression.
